When Wendy and Sherry of Kiboomu, the children’s music and APPs people needed creative ideas for a new series of children’s APPs for iphones and ipads, they called on us.
Interactive educational projects for children are something we’ve illustrated for many years. APPs for electronic devices are one of the latest types of interactive media, and they're exciting to brainstorm because of all of the possibilities for fun user experiences.
The first APP for children we illustrated for Kiboomu was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. We worked closely with Kiboomu, first to design their logo and blog site home page, then to come up with concepts for the APP and get the art and music in synch. With part of their design team in Canada, others in California and ourselves in the Midwest, the project required plenty of good communication.
The physical format for APPs is pretty tight, so the illustrations had to make the most of the space. Paul’s bunny character was a perfect match with their music, giving this APP a cute dreamy feeling. The rocket character adds action to the night sky and helps make the Twinkle APP equally appealing to boys and girls.
